The Year I Came To America: An Experiment in Memoirs
The year I came to America began at the American embassy in Lagos. It is one of the many memories of my last days in Nigeria I recall vividly. I love looking into the pitch black tunnel. Some times, quick flashes of light streaks across my vision as the train quickly advances through the tunnel. Looking out the lexan window makes me feel I’m all alone in a world of my own, my cocoon. I momentarily forget about the other commuters sojourning to their various destinations. I plug in my earpiece to my favorite afrobeats and let the sound…
